A Shift in Corporate Social Activities

For many firms workplace socialising around alcohol is no longer a good option. Alcohol by it’s nature excludes 26% of 16-24 year olds who are teetotal, as well as faith groups such as Muslims who do not drink. Women are less likely to thrive in workplaces that revolve around alcohol, as they are still more likely to bear the brunt of child care responsilbilities, than their male co-workers. Bad behaviour often occurs when people drink too much and following #metoo scandals, companies are looking for social activities which do not involve drinking.

A recent survey by operator Etc Venues, of 400 event professionals by venue, showed two-thirds were taking more bookings for experiences, that replaced boozy events. Team building ranging from cookery classses to treasure hunts are replacing alcohol fuelled team bonding experiences.
